If you have netflix, you can watch the documentary Small Town Gay Bar for free under the "Watch Instantly" tab. Small Town Gay Bar is a film about GLBTI folks finding sanctuary in the otherwise detrimentally repressive section of the U.S. known as "the Bible Belt". I've always been quiet on livejournal. However, over the last week, I've been feeling like I lost my sanctuary. A safe place where I can be honest and "out" in a way that I'm not in my real life. I know a lot of people are unsure about whether or not they will stay at LJ. I think many people are hoping the whole thing will just blow over, and surely LJ is waiting for things to calm down before taking further action. LJ has demonstrated, however, that they are going to let corporations and religious institutions dictate the parameters of what we should or should not enjoy. I'm sure as hell not sticking around as those parameters get tighter and tighter. |
